The Value of Seeing What You Can’t Yet See

October 2, 2025

We all know how dangerous blind spots are when driving!  One missed glance, and the consequences can be serious. Leadership is no different. Every person has blind spots: habits, assumptions, or fixed perspectives they simply don’t notice. And just like on the road, those blind spots can cause damage.

In workplaces, if a leader isn’t checking their blind spots, they may: not hear all voices, see ideas, for example, from a less favoured employees, be overlooking poor performance or conduct, as it slips by, unchecked. This oversight can result in failure to meet employer duties as required in WH & S legislative obligations, and in particular, as outlined in the Managing Psychological Hazards at Work Code of Practice.

But…When You Check Your Blind Spots …

  • Innovation Sparks: Addressing blind spots means you see and hear more ideas.  Your business offers more value. You win that project.
  • $$$$ are Saved: You avoid the 30–50% of annual salary that it typically costs to replace a mid-level employee who left because they were tired of being in the rear vision mirror.
  • More Time / Less Stress: Your irreplaceable time becomes abundant as it’s not lost fixing blind spot damage.

Curious about reducing blind spot damage, and increasing your bottom line and impact?

Start by practicing the EQ skill of recognising patterns.  When you notice your recurring thoughts, reactions, assumptions, actions or inactions, you build “blind spot governance”.  You start to see more, and have more options. This prevents the avoidable crashes.

Another way to illuminate blind spots is with well-validated leadership development tools, and organisational, team and leadership survey tools. Think of them as wide-angle mirrors that also provide data. Instead of relying on gut feel or the loudest voices, allow qualitative and quantitative data to inform you.

Every person has blind spots.  Well validated survey tools, and highly trained coaches help you see and rectify blinds spots. If you’re ready to check your mirrors, let’s connect.
